Autofill vs auto-apply: what's the difference, and which is safer?

Checked October 19, 2026 · by Your Apply Desk. We make one of the tools on this page; we say when another fits you better.

What's the difference between autofill and auto-apply?

Autofill fills in an application form and stops; you check it and press Submit. Auto-apply submits applications for you, often many a day. Simplify, Huntr, Careerflow and Your Apply Desk's Penny are autofill. LazyApply, Massive and AIApply's Auto Apply submit for you. Autofill keeps you in control of what each employer sees.

Which to choose

  • Choose autofill if you're applying to roles you fit and want each application to be right.
  • Choose auto-apply only for high-volume, entry-level searches, and review the first batches closely.
  • Either way, check what's attached: a resume written for the role does better than a generic one.

Questions people ask

Is auto-apply allowed?
Some job boards limit accounts that apply automatically. Employer career sites usually expect a person to submit. Autofill avoids both problems.
